This black and slender pyramid is situated in the eastern part of the Asian range, and to reach its base, a trek of 12 days is necessary, travelling across spectacular valleys in the heart of Nepal. Perhaps this is the source of its greatest appeal, the fact of being far from every accessible place and the picturesque route that must be covered to get to this place. Close up, its apparently simple architecture is diversified into a group of hanging glaciers and rock spurs, with big edges merging into a tiny summit, the topmost point of this great giant of Himalaya.
Somehow, this expedition meant new sensations, challenges and adventures to Carlos, for many different reasons; not least because it was the first expedition he conceived, planned and developed as his own personal project.
Once he was there, Carlos teamed up with the Basque climber Edurne Pasaban, Ricardo Valencia and Joseba Gutioerrez, both from Navarra, and the Italians Mario Merelli and Silvio Mondinelli. Their teamwork and cooperation on this expedition was rewarded with a resounding success.
This was Carlos’ second great 8.000er, after the summit of K2 in 2001.

Kangchenjunga,
story of a survivor
It is a great story, shocking and touching…
It shows the grandeur and the miseries of Himalaya, the hard work needed
to conquer one of the most difficult mountains in the world, the commitment
required for a climb of great difficulty to the third highest mountain
on Earth (8,586 meters) and especially, the personal odyssey of survival
lived by Carlos Pauner during the descent.
While the press releases filled the pages of the newspapers, Carlos, who was oblivious to what was going on, endured an unrepeatable experience: loneliness, cold, blizzards, snowstorms, harsh bivouacs in the open air…definitively, a fight for survival.

The audio-visual production was groundbreaking and ambitious: professional cameras, filming in high resolution and other advanced technical equipment, all needed to be able to capture unique and spectacular images of this remote and beautiful location.
This production by Carlos Pauner and Factoría de Contenidos, tells the story, not only of the alpine adventure, but also of the life of the inhabitants of the valley, the hard work of Sherpas, and the many contradictions and half-truths connected with other expeditions to Everest.

This climb through Kinshofer is like a great symphony. Climbers must cross enormous snow slopes, steep ice corridors and difficult rock walls.. Adding to the drama of all this is an impressive 4,000 meters drop.
The prize of the summit put the finishing touch to a long season, full of adventure and incident. To stand on the summit of this great Asian giant in the company of good friends was one of the most important moments of Carlos’ Himalayan career.

Broad
Peak, a long way to the summit
In this third and definitive attempt, there was a mixture of memories and feelings, which are told in this story by Carlos himself. Other summits, other colleagues, other massifs... all this creates the foundation of a fascinating story of endurance and the achievement of a great objective.
Karakorum Range offers a spectacular and unequalled panorama of a landscape. In this documentary there is also a mixture of images and experiences of all the great climbs carried out by Carlos during this decade of adventure in Himalaya.
